As Türkiye and China commemorate 55 years of diplomatic relations, the two countries are expanding their collaborative efforts across various sectors, enhancing their longstanding partnership rooted in historical connections. Their relationship, which traces back to the ancient Silk Road, has been a conduit for trade, cultural exchanges, and diplomatic interactions. Türkiye’s Ambassador to China, Selçuk Ünal, emphasized how these centuries-old ties have laid the groundwork for today’s robust relationship between the nations.
Diplomatic ties between Türkiye and China were formally established in 1971, and since then, their relationship has seen substantial growth. Today, China stands as Türkiye’s largest trading partner, with the annual bilateral trade volume exceeding $50 billion. The strengthening of connectivity is evident with the rise in passenger and cargo flights that link major cities in both countries. Türkiye has also increased its diplomatic footprint in China through the establishment of multiple consulates, fostering deeper economic engagements.
In recent years, both nations have focused on enhancing cooperation in critical areas such as artificial intelligence, green energy, infrastructure, and commerce. Ambassador Ünal noted that Ankara and Beijing share aligned perspectives on many international and regional matters, emphasizing a mutual commitment to peace, stability, and development, along with efforts to avert conflicts.
The leadership of Türkiye and China is steering their countries toward a strategic vision aimed at fostering long-term economic growth and regional collaboration. This vision seeks to build on the foundation of their shared history and current partnership to further advance mutual interests and strengthen ties across diverse sectors.
