In a bid to enhance cooperation, China has urged the United Kingdom to ensure a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises operating within its borders. This call was made during the 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue held in Beijing, as both nations look to fortify their bilateral relations.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed hope that the UK will foster favorable conditions for Chinese companies, which in turn would support the progressive development of ties between the two countries. Wang highlighted that recent high-level meetings have reactivated exchanges and collaboration across multiple sectors, underscoring the significance of maintaining dialogues, broadening practical cooperation, and endorsing multilateralism amid global uncertainties.
The discussions also underscored the influential roles of China and the UK as key players in addressing global challenges and advancing a more balanced global governance system. UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper reaffirmed the UK’s dedication to sustaining stable and constructive relations with China, stressing the increasing importance of dialogue and cooperation in the face of a complex international landscape.
Cooper reiterated Britain’s longstanding stance on the Taiwan issue and emphasized the need for ongoing engagement with China while managing differences through dialogue. The dialogue placed a central focus on economic and trade cooperation, with both parties exploring collaborative opportunities in emerging sectors such as science, technology, artificial intelligence, climate initiatives, and innovation. Her visit included meetings in Beijing and Shenzhen aimed at broadening partnerships in these areas.
Analysts interpret this dialogue as an effort by both governments to convert recent political agreements into tangible outcomes, while maintaining open communication on global issues and economic collaboration. The continued engagement reflects a mutual recognition of the benefits of working together amid an increasingly interconnected world.
