Amid fresh reports of a standoff along the contested China-India border, China has called on India to adhere to existing bilateral border agreements to maintain peace and stability. Speaking on behalf of the Chinese government, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized the importance of implementing these understandings to prevent further tensions.
Guo stated that China remains committed to the agreements reached with India and that its routine patrols and border management activities are conducted to safeguard its territorial sovereignty. These remarks come after renewed tensions were reported, with Indian officials attributing such incidents to Chinese troops deviating from agreed patrolling patterns.
The Chinese spokesperson highlighted the ongoing communication between the two countries through diplomatic and military channels as a way to address border-related issues. He urged India to collaborate with China in taking practical measures to ensure peace in the border areas, stressing the significance of maintaining tranquillity as both nations navigate their territorial disputes.
Both China and India have a long-standing history of border disputes, and incidents along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) have periodically heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The continued dialogue through established communication mechanisms is seen as crucial in preventing escalation and fostering a stable environment along the border.
As the two countries work to manage their disagreements, maintaining a peaceful approach remains a primary challenge. Both sides have previously agreed to handle such issues through dialogue, underlining the importance of adhering to previously established agreements to mitigate potential conflicts.
