During an inspection tour of Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for enhanced ecological conservation and sustainable green development. His visit underlined significant efforts in wetland restoration, biodiversity protection, and the development of environmentally friendly computing infrastructure.
At the Huangqihai Lake nature reserve, Xi assessed the progress of restoration initiatives aimed at revitalizing the lake, which had been under threat from climate change and other environmental stresses. Conservation strategies have successfully increased the lake’s water capacity over time. Xi highlighted the importance of enforcing China’s wetland protection legislation, preserving biodiversity, and maintaining strict ecological protection zones. He advocated for prioritizing natural restoration in degraded wetland areas, complemented by scientific intervention when necessary.
Xi’s itinerary also included a visit to the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone, where he reviewed the advancements of China’s “East Data, West Computing” initiative. This project aims to enhance the distribution of computing resources throughout the country. Xi underscored the importance of ensuring the efficient operation of completed projects and the timely completion of ongoing developments. He called on authorities and industry stakeholders to foster efficient, environmentally friendly, and secure computing infrastructure to bolster China’s digital economy while supporting sustainable growth.
In addition to these environmental and technological priorities, Xi also took the opportunity to review local agricultural and livestock products. He encouraged officials to improve the linkage between production and markets to boost the incomes of farmers and herders, thereby supporting regional economic development.
