China has voiced its disapproval over a proposed sanctions bill in the United States aimed at penalizing major purchasers of Russian oil and natural gas. This move has prompted Beijing to declare its intention to take all necessary steps to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of its businesses. The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Lin Jian, emphasized that China is firmly against unilateral sanctions that lack a foundation in international law or the endorsement of the United Nations Security Council.
The legislation being considered in the U.S. is designed to impose punitive measures on the largest global consumers of Russian crude oil and natural gas, with China being one of the primary targets.
