In a recent meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo, Chinese President Xi Jinping advocated for a new security framework in the Middle East. This framework would be built on the pillars of cooperation, dialogue, and an unwavering respect for national sovereignty. Xi introduced a four-point strategy aimed at enhancing regional security, resolving interconnected conflicts, boosting economic development, and improving international coordination efforts. He emphasized the importance of countries within the region assuming more responsibility for their security while opposing any interference from external powers. Furthermore, Xi underlined the significance of the Palestinian issue as central to addressing broader tensions in the Middle East.
China has expressed a readiness to work alongside regional nations to safeguard international shipping routes, promote economic progress, and tackle the root causes of conflict. Xi underscored that the United Nations Charter and international law should remain the bedrock for addressing regional challenges. The discussions also highlighted the importance of bolstering economic relations between China and Egypt. Xi encouraged expanded collaboration in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, agriculture, communications, electric vehicles, green energy, aerospace, and the digital economy.
Egypt has maintained its position as China’s largest trading partner and primary source of imports for 14 consecutive years. Bilateral trade between the two nations increased from $10.21 billion in 2013 to a projected $20.79 billion in 2025. This growth underscores the deepening economic ties between the two countries.
During the talks, China and Egypt signed over 20 cooperation agreements covering a wide array of areas, including artificial intelligence, trade, technology, education, transportation, and industrial supply chains. Both countries also released a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to further enhancing their comprehensive strategic partnership, reflecting a mutual desire to strengthen their collaboration across various fields.
