Chinese President Xi Jinping extended congratulations to Kim Jong-un on the 80th founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), emphasizing Beijing’s commitment to deepen strategic communication, enhance cooperation, and promote the steady development of bilateral ties. Xi highlighted the achievements of the WPK over eight decades in uniting the DPRK people and advancing the country’s socialist cause.
Xi reaffirmed that, despite global changes, China remains dedicated to maintaining and consolidating relations with the DPRK to support the socialist goals of both nations and contribute to regional stability and prosperity. He noted that recent meetings with Kim, including in September during commemorations of China’s victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, had opened a new chapter in China-DPRK friendship.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang also visited Pyongyang to attend the WPK anniversary celebrations, marking the first visit by a Chinese premier in 16 years. Meeting with Kim, Li stressed the importance of strategic, long-term ties and multilateral collaboration to promote global stability. During his visit, Li paid tribute to the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army martyrs who fought alongside the DPRK during the Korean War and visited the China-DPRK Friendship Tower, underscoring the historical bonds between the two countries.
